The Brief: The Art Cafe is a walk-in studio where you choose a craft not coffee from a rotating ~menu~ of projects. They provide all the supplies in a structured yet playful setting utilizing their process-based art approach that encourages people to get messy and take risks. They wanted their branding to have hints of a retro cafe (they bring all your supplies out on a cafeteria tray!) yet feel modern and playful for all ages.

The Solution: I was inspired by vintage diner signs, cut-and-paste collage aesthetic, and chunky funky type to create a world for The Art Cafe that you can't help but to feel creative when you walk in. There's no primary logo here but a suite of colorful options built with negative space to layer on glass outside the building, on top of process photos, or like a sticker. Their brand kit also includes some super fun digital badges that can be used as physical stickers, checkered patterns, a custom menu, and social media templates.

Early sketches probably influenced by the fact that I was craving Waffle House.

The Art Cafe

Indy’s first Art Cafe is the newest venture from local process-based studio Line+Form Art Center and is located inside The Contemporary Art Museum of Indianapolis (CAMi). They asked me to help build their visual identity and design an aesthetic that can translate easily from social media to the studio’s physical decor and vibe. This was a dream project from start to finish and came together from concept to ✨cafe✨ in just under a month!

The Art Cafe IRL is a colorful creative space located inside of a brand new art museum in Indianapolis. I just love my city, what a cool concept. Ya’ll know I had to order off the kids menu and paint the unicorn 🦄

The Art Cafe is a place where artists of all ages are encouraged to take risks, get messy, and have fun.

The Art Cafe is open during museum hours and will have a rotating ~menu~ of crafts and art projects.
